2011-2012 School Year

Here are some pictures from this past school year. It was an ocean theme. These were taken towards the end of setting up the classroom. This is the circle time carpet. The middle board was changed weekly depending on the theme we were focusing on. I later added a number chart and rule chart to this wall.

These are the student's cubbies.
Dramatic play and block center
Library center..this was one of the favorite areas the kids frequented daily along with playing teacher at the word wall.
Art center
Bottom left was math and manipulatives and on the right was ABC center and Writing center.

A lot of the decorations were either purchased at discount stores or handmade. I really enjoyed this theme for my classroom and the children were excited from day one. They really respected and maintained the classroom all year. This was my favorite teaching year to date. Everything went off without a hitch and the kids really behaved fantastic! I was able to implement so many great strategies learned from trainings this year! =)

Making Good Use of Summer

Of course we teachers don't really take the entire summer off. We end up working and planning new things for next school year. I've decided to go back to my Seuss theme for next year. The ocean decor is going back in the attic for now until I feel beachy again :) I can't stop making/buying cute things to use in my classroom. (Pictures to come soon). I made some great things to hang from the ceiling, posters, and stuffed animals from Kohl's (some purchased on eBay). I even figured out how to use the poster setting on my printer to make large posters for my classroom. I made a "Seuss-tastic Work" poster for the hallway art I will display next year. I made some balloons for the birthday door. I plan on drawing a character to hold the strings of each balloon.  I will go through my boxes in the upcoming week and put up some pictures of the items I have made/purchased for next school year, So excited...and even more excited to get all that stuff out of my house and back at school!! :) Hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I sure am!

2009 Back in the Day!!! J/K

Here are some pictures of my classroom from 2009. At this point, this was my third year teaching after college which gave me a chance to take the time to collect Seuss themed items for school. I purchased things from flea markets, various websites, teacher stores, and even had hand drawn items such as my class count Sneetch.
I try my best to teach the kids to respect out classroom and keep everything neat and tidy once they are done playing.
This is my circle time spot. The job chart, home/school chart, weather and class count (sneetch) are all on the back wall. On the right is our calendar, months of the year, word wall, and topic board which gets changed weekly depending on the theme.
This was the door design I used at the beginning of the school year. It says, "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Welcome to Our Room". I got the idea off from a website and just modified it to to fit my style. I used a cricut to cut out the letters and I cut out the palm tree leaves with a template I drew.
This was my library and listening center. As you can see, I LOVE Seuss books. The stuffed animals are from Kohls. I have since collected more Seuss things for the 2012-2013 school year.
This is a view from the door, I took this picture prior to rearranging the posters and word wall. I usually change themes every 2 years or so. I did an ocean theme this past school year, but miss my Seuss stuff. So here we go again crawling in the attic yet again to get it all down (especially in this Texas heat where the heat idex is 110 degrees out during the summer)!! Ah, but I love making my classrooms inviting for my students. My next task is to see how I can top last years classroom design. I'll keep coming through old pictures. You'll definately see major progress from when I first started teaching and had nothing since I was broke and right out of college. :)

Ok, For Real this Time!!!

Last year I started my blog as a way to showcase all of the things I make at home and for my classroom. Total flop! I haven't got around to even figuring out how to navigate this thing! But I have all summer to do it...so that's my goal! I have tons of great ideas I came up with so far that I plan on testing next year in my classroom. Pictures to come....once I can figure this thing out! :)
